This tool will help you to find the notes on the neck of the guitar. Simply select a guitar or bass type and a tuning and hit the update button. The default is a 6-string guitar in standard tuning. This can be a helpful tool when you need to find the locations of the notes when writing songs or translating guitar to piano and vice-versa. It's easy to learn to do that without the note finder tool but it makes it easier to see a graphical representation. More tunings and additional configurations will be added soon. In case you don't know how to get the notes from the fretboard here's a simple lesson for you. Starting from the open note, holding no frets, every time you move 2 frets down the fretboard the note letter moves down the alphabet. There are two exceptions: From B to C and E to F, you move only one fret. Another way to say that is that B and E don't have sharps or (to be redundant), C and F don't have flats. Why? I'll get back to you on that one. For example, starting on the A string open, moving down the fretboard one fret at a time you would have A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# then back to A on the 12th fret and then repeat for the rest of the frets. I thought it was more complicated than that before I learned it but it's actually very simple. |
