Review by Charlie Glasgow

Overall

This little powerhouse works great as a practice amp at home and I use it for teaching as well. I sell the Vox line at a local pro shop and these little gems are rare to find, but when plugged into a 4 12 cabinet, they roar to life! They put plenty of power out with an extension cab and will keep up on stage with most combos.

Sound

Clean channel is pristine and breaks up slightly with that tube sound at about halfway. The 2nd channel at halfway on gain is perfect for classic rock and sings. The gain boost is perfect for lead work and it sounds so close to my old 74 plexi Marshall that I'm smiling all the way through rehearsals and flashing back to my younger days! The bass and treble knobs work well and it's a no frills, great sounding amp without the bells and whistles like reverb and delay. Too bad they discontinued these amps and I now own two so I have a backup and can run in stereo on stage! LOVE these VR15s!

Look

Classic Vox look and feel. Thought about cutting the cab down to half size to make it look like a simple head, but common sense pervails and I leave it alone.

Reliability

Not a problem to be found.

Value

For the money, you'll not find a better sounding valve amp on the market. 17 lbs of roaring power that far exceeds the 15 watts RMS rating stamped upon it's front. Small children and older gimpy musicians can lift this amp and the tone is unmatched when plugged into a bigger cabinet. The power will astound you as well as the sustain and controlled feedback.

Other Comments

This amp is perfect for blues or classic rock guitarists. If you own a Marshall, Orange or Hi-watt half stack and need a backup head, this little guy can run an 8 ohm load cab that will scare your friends to death! My drummer actually begged me to turn this thing down!
