Overall
I bought a $99 Fender Mini-Strat for my 6 year old and a $99 amp. I took it home and when I tried to tune it up with my chromatic tuner, but it wouldn't hold tune, and some strings wouln't tune at all.
I found this Ibanez guitar at another store and it is a quantum leap in terms of quality over the fender, and is shorter, and so more comfortable for him. It tunes up nicely and my son can learn to play without the added complexity of an amp (which also BTW made the jump from 99 to 199 a wash since I could return the $99 amp along with the bogus fender). It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack to plug in headphones right on the guitar.
Sound
After trying to tune the fender for 1/2 hr the night before on a chromatic tuner, hearing this one tune up by ear and play a nice sweet chord was like a burden lifted.
Look
When my son saw it, it was a no-brainer for him. Immediate thumbs up.
Feel
This unit Was much lighter than the fender mini-strat, which my 6 year old greatly appreciates when wearing it w/ the strap.
Reliability
It's really too soon to tell, but look like it will hold up well.
Value
I gave only 4 stars because I've only have one other experience to comapre. That said, the fender would get a 2 star rating for value
