Overall

This is a beautiful and very modern sounding bass which plays great and looks like a million dollars!

Considering this is a bass from Yamaha's top line, TRB, it's an incredible offer at a very low price.

Sound

I have just bought a Gallien-Krueger "Backline" stack with a Backline 350 head and a 410BLX cabinet. It sounds very good together with the TRB1005, but I can't seem to reach the sound I'm aiming for 100%.

But still, it's a very cool sounding bass. The two humbucking pickups effectively prevents noice and static. Since it has active electronics it also reveals the sound of your fingers on the strings - maybe a bit more than I like.

However, the bass goes way down to the low B and still produces a crystal-clear tone without any noice or growl.

Also, the 3-band EQ and the pan makes it possible to reach a wide variety of different bass sounds. It's a very versatile bass that covers practically every musical style.

Look

The TRB series is in my opinion the most beautiful and aesthetic bass series ever produced.

Especially the head piece of the bass looks incredible! The body is nicely rounded in the edges which also makes it comfortable to play even more.

I bought the TRB1005 in natural finish, but it's also available in dark red or black finishes. However, I prefer the natural finish by far. I love the contrast between the black hardware and the light maple finish of the bass.

In every way a beautiful bass which looks absolutely stunning on stage!

Feel

This is where the TRB1005 scores high! It's extremely playable and feels great in your hands. Smooth, light and produces the tones you play without problems.

I love the feel of the bass. It's like butter in your hands. :-)

It's by far the most playable bass I've ever played.

Reliability

Since it has active electronics you might be surprised when the battery suddenly dies. Fortunately, the battery is easily accessable on the back side of the body. An active/passive switch would have hit the spot!

I have owned my TRB1005 for half a year now and in normal use the bass works perfectly. I trust mine completely.

Value

I'd say it would be hard to find a better offer at this price.

At a very low price you get a top class bass which looks, plays and sounds awesome!

The TRB1005 may be the cheapest model in the TRB series but still TRB basses are being played by both Nathan East, Abraham Laboriel and John Patitucci, among others. So you know that you get an exclusive instrument when you buy a TRB. The TRB1005 is no exception.

Other Comments

I can only give the TRB1005 my warmest recommendation!

Overall

A friend recommended the TRB series when I expressed interest in buying a Yamaha bass. Boy, am I glad I took his advice! If you think this bass looks great in the pictures, wait until you actually get your hands on it... the finish is immaculate. I have the natural finish by the way.

Sound

This bass has the variety sounds I had hoped for and more... it ranges from very sharp (great for slapping and hammering) to very full and deep (very jazzy, I must say). All made possible with the 3 band EQ. The pickups are excellent and virtually eliminates unwanted fretting noise. You can lose all inhibtions on this baby... Plucking even on low notes... like the 4th and 5th strings is distinct and warm.

Look

If I could have given this ten stars, I would. The bass is just beautiful. I cannot say enough about how lovely this bass is. Don't scratch or drop it; you will regret it. This bass is a work of art. Looks so good, everyone will swear you paid a mint for it. I cant get enough of it. I have never seen any other bass in this price range look this professional.

Feel

I'll start with the cons first... The bass is moderatley heavy... you might want to pull a chair for an all-night performance. Also, the high notes are quite difficult to play... for some reason more of the neck is bolted to the body. The advantage of this though is that the upper fretboard on is more easily accessible... It can be a challenge navigating a 35 inch fretboard. The action is quite low... suitable for hammering, tapping and slapping... i adjusted mine so that the action is the lowest possible without getting an annoying ringing sound. The postioning of the pickups are great in that they don't interfere with my plucking hand. Controls are also within easy reach

Reliability

Great... consumes battery power quickly. My advice is: buy a rechargeable 9V battery and always have a spare battery just in case. It literally takes about 15-20 seconds to change batteries... not like some other basses where you need to undo screws to get to the electronics. Yamaha ensures you don't have to tamper with anything. I am confident that the woods used to construct this bass are world class.

Value

One of my most prized possessions. The bass is so affordable. A steal of a deal really. I have my eye on the Yamaha TRB5PII, but I am satisfied with my buy. I am eager to see what Yamaha will bring out next in the TRB series. I will never sell this one though. It is too good to let go. The complete bass. Cheap, amazing range of sounds, easy on the eyes... you will be the envy of you friends.

Buy it! A quality first bass... learning on this instrument is such a plus... wish I had a bass like this when I was learning to play!
