Review by xxbassdemonxx

Overall

To me, this bass has been nothing but fun and excitement. I use it for gigging and recording in my band All Skylines Collide, and prefer it to most other basses I've tried. I do recommend this bass, but I would check out the 06' 07' versions of the bass if you can't get used to the off balance.

Sound

The Emg pickups are quite powerful, and can deliver lots of different sounds. I play it through either a 300 watt solid state head with 2x18 or a 2x10 and an 18 cab, however I have played through a Traynor YBA-200 tube head, and it sounds even more impressive. Grade A sound for sure.

Look

I really like the look of this bass. Its a cross between a gibson firebird and a telecaster with a reverse headstock. I didn't like the white pick guards on my bass, so I took em off and remade some out of black pearloid. Now it looks pretty grand!

Feel

To each is their own really when it comes to feel. I was originally going to purchase a Schecter Stiletto Custom, but this bass came along. I was expecting a similar feel, and that wasn't the case. However, the neck is quite narrow, but thick, and it is an extremely different playing experience (for me). Also, the painted neck can feel a little tack when you have sweaty hands, haha, but the guitar spray "Finger Ease" does the trick. Lastly, the balance of the guitar isn't exactly what I consider comfortable, this is mainly due to the larger headstock and that puts it out of balance. I think thats why they changed the headstock shape in the years to come. All in all, the bass has a really good action, and a pretty decent feel.

Reliability

This bass is extremely reliable, but keep in mind it has active pick-ups, so the 9v battery in the back needs to be replaced every so often. If you're gigging with it, just keep an extra battery or two in the case with it. Another amazing thing about this bass is that it has a graphite nut and graphite saddles. This may seem like a minor thing, but it helps your string life. For example, I bought my 05' Ultrabass in 07' and the original strings from the factory were on it, and they were playable for another 6 months before I got tired of them. No breakage at all.

Value

The list price was somewhere in the $899 range, and I got a really great deal for mine, so for the price I paid, its worth every penny. Also, if somebody was to pay the list price for one of these, I don't think it would be a let down at all.
