TAN16C Acoustic-Electric Guitar
User Reviews Review by Dan Kondy Overall This has to be the best sounding solid spruce/solid rosewood acoustic that Takamine makes, hands down. Yes, the body sides are laminate rosewood, but this does not detract from the unplugged acoustic tone of this model. The electronics are top of the line through a good quality amp. Sound The sound through an amp is all there, anything you could ask for with it's "cool tube" addition. And through an acoustic amp of mine with a 100 watts and two 12 inch speakers, it's great for any style of playing. What is the suprise though, is it's straight acoustic sound unplugged. I use light gauge phosphor bronze Martin "SP" strings, and switch to D'Addario medium-light Bluegrass Phosphor Bronze when I need to. I play with Country, Bluegrass and Folk music bands in my area, straight acoustic and through amps. Straight hard chording, flatpicking or finger style, the TAN16C does it all. I have had my TAN16C for just over two years, and the aging of the rosewood body as it opens up more with constant playing, the tone just gets better. Look The fit, finish and appearance of the TAN16C is excellant. The workmanship is really top of the line, and what you would expect with a high dollar Takamine. Inside the guitar the craftsmanship shows too. The factory set up was very good, though I lowered the saddle a bit for my playing style. Feel The feel of the neck is just right for me, maybe a bit thicker than a Martin dreadnaught. The body at the lower bottom end of the guitar. is much wider than a Martin but not cumbersome at at all. It has a good solid dreadnaught feel. The increased weight of the guitar can be felt over a Martin dreadnaught, but not tiresome to heft. Reliability My TAN16C has proven very reliable with hard and frequent playing. No problems with the electronics also. Value This guitar is well worth price I paid for it, and especially for the quality of its catagory as a real professionaly made instrument. And it's a solid investment if a buyer wants a once in a lifetime single guitar to own. It's a versatle guitar for any playing style. I also own a Takamine AN10S, and a Martin D-16RGT. Both are great guitars that I play often too. But my TAN16C is of course my favorite. |
