Overall

Martin guitars are expensive, and this is Martin's best selling model for a reason. For the money, I feel this is one of the best values in the Martin line. It has all of the goodies of both appearance and construction that more expensive Martins have, at a lower price. It is a great finger style guitar, and well suited to finger style blues ala Clapton. If you want a guitar to strum, this is NOT the guitar for you. Strummed chords do not sound as good as they do on any dreadnaught Martin.

Sound

Loud, mellow, clean, and Martin through-and-through. This guitar plays individual notes loud and clear, and you can easily vary the volume with attack, and no distortion. The bass strings are mellow, but not muddy. the highs are clean and pure. I use Martin Clapton strings, and they seem perfectly balanced for the guitar.

Look

This guitar has it all. The sitka top is aged with toner to give it a beautiful golden hue. Sides and back are E. I. rosewood. The bridge and finger board are ebony. Harringbone and vintage tuners give it a 1930's look and feel. The finish is a high gloss that brings out the beauty of the wood.

Feel

The wide fingerboard, short scale and 00 body combine to make this one of the easiest to play guitars I have ever owned. Sometimes a guitar just feels right, and this one is it! Again, it is Martin's most popular model for a reason.

Reliability

Hey...it's a Martin! I bought my guitar used, when it was 5 years old. If you look close, it has a few small scratches, but the finish has held up well. Any well made guitar will be reliable with proper care.

Value

As I said in the Overall comments, I feel this model is a great value in the Martin line. $3100 for a list $4200 guitar is a lot of money, but as Martins go, you get alot of guitar for that money. Because of it's popularity, it holds its value better than most Martins, and certainly better than any other guitar. It comes with an arched top, five ply Geib-style case that is not only high quality, but has the vintage look it needs to go with the guitar.
