Elvis Presley Dove Acoustic Guitar
User Reviews Review by Dan from Missouri. Overall The Elvis Presley Dove is the best buy for a Gibson Dove, when compared to the higher priced Dove models. It has the sound, fit and finish quality all there, for the tone of a Dove's traditional solid spruce top, and solid maple back and sides. I purchased my new Gibson Elvis Presley Dove over a year ago. I'm well satisfied with it. If a buyer of the Presley Dove can be satisfied with the gloss black finish of this guitar, and the racey pickguard design, it does everything you will want in the Dove catagory. Mine came from the factory with a great set up, and easy playing. I changed the strings to phosphor bronze D'Addario Bluegrass strings. I play country music, folk and some bluegrass with my jam groups and shows we put on. This Dove has all the depth of a bass sound, and treble ring that an acoustic player would ever need. Sound In changing the factory strings to a set of light gauge phosphor bronze, that has a .054" sixth string, or to medium gauge phosphor bronze strings with a .056" big "E" sixth, this gives this Dove more volume and depth of tone. I have used both Martin "SP" Light Gauge strings .012"-.054", and D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Bluegrass strings .012"-.056", and my Dove sounds great with either sets. Of course every player has their own preference as to what sounds good to them. Look The fit, finish and quality of workmanship is first rate. Even looking inside the guitar, everything was well put together. The attention to detail was done in every way here. Feel This Dove has the great feel of a dreadnaught. The neck is easliy playable up and down the fret board. Reliability I purchased my Elvis Presley Dove, over a year ago now. It has performed great with a lot of use from me. The bands I play with in my area, and attending jams in my state, my Dove holds it's own in every way. I also own a two Martin acoustics, an HD-28, a D-16RGT, and a Gibson J-50. All these guitars were purchased new over the last 16 years, my D-16RGT anf the Presley Dove are my latest buys. Both being aover a year old with each. All my acoustics here have been reliable guitars, and I can see that my one year old new Presley Dove will be too. Value As I mentioned before, the Presley Dove is the best value for anyone wanting to purchase a Gibson Dove model, compared to the higher priced Dove's Gibson offers. But only if you can live with an all black guitar. I don't have a problem with that myself. After I bought my Dove, I had a luthier friend of mine replace the saddle with a quality bone one, I replaced the string pins with bone at the same time. I also had the luthier replace the factory pickguard with a Greven tortise, that resembles the pickguard from my Martin HD-28. All this was just my choices, and not really needed to anyone buying the Presley Dove. To each his own I guess. Other Comments I'm playing my Presley Dove, and enjoying it. Not so much from the nostalgia of having an Elvis copy. But for owning a great true Gibson Dove. |
