Overall

I'm an avid musician who's been out of the game for a while and have recently started recording again - I was looking for an acoustic set up for tracking that kind of music and I decided to really look at acoustic basses (I'd wanted one since I was a kid). After playing a number of models and figuring on budget, I pulled the trigger on the mini jumbo Fender BG32. This (and for that matter all Fenders) had tone and level while playing acoustic that far surpassed every other bass I'd ever played. If you're really into playing acoustically, this bass is VERY hard to beat, especially at that price point. I also really love the 30" scale of the neck. It makes it easier to play, not to mention store. The tone and warmth right out of the box is awesome - I highly recommend this instrument!

Sound

Even unplugged, the tone and warmth of the instrument is immediately noticeable. I tried Gibsons, Gretchs and Kelly basses and with the exception of the Martin B1, the Fender kicked the hell out of all of them in terms of playability and acoustic level. I highly reccomend the natural finish over the black for better tone and gain.

Look

I'm a big fan of the jumbo body style. It's a little more tapered than a dreadnought and I've never been a fan aesthetically of a cutaway on an acoustic body. The short neck makes the body look bigger, and the wood finishes are beautiful. Nice, simple inlay married with mahogony and spruce make an instrument that is classic and won't look silly or out of place next to your stable of acoustic guitars.

Feel

Great feel, the neck is very well formed and very smooth. Light action for a bass and due to the 30" scale, the ergonomics of the instrument is very accomodating

Reliability

Well, it's a Fender, so it's hard to squak about reliability. That being said, I've only owned the instrument for a short time and can't effectively comment on the durability of the bass itself. Time will tell.

Value

Sure, the wood's laminated, but it's solid wood and very good quality material choices make for better sound. I'd rather have a laminated spruce top than a solid cedar top, especially on a bass. This bass has all the elements: Fishman pick up, high quality wood, cast machine heads, solid rosewood neck and all in a very affordable package. Sure, we'd all love a Dave Maize bass, but this will definitely do the job until $4000 doesn't seem like alot of money.... ; )

Other Comments

You will not regret buying this instrument. Great bass for the money!
